The Procrastinator’s Handbook by Rita Emmett

July 25, 2010

Perfectionism and Fears.

Here are the reasons why I recommend this fantastic book, The Procrastinator’s Handbook by Rita Emmett.

#1 It doesn’t hurt that Jack Canfield, coauthor of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series was quoted on the front cover saying,

“Don’t put off reading this book. Among the techniques and concepts, stories and humor, quotes and ‘quick tips,’ you will find something to help you get started.”

#2 It also didn’t hurt that the subtitle is Mastering the Art of Doing It Now.

#3 But what you find inside is the good stuff!  My personal favorite section of the book is about fears.

  • Fear of the Unknown
  • Fear of Making Mistakes
  • Fear of Judgment
  • Fear of Success
  • Fear of Having to Live Up to A High Standard
  • Fear of Change
  • Fear of Too Much Responsibility
  • Fear of Feelings
  • Fear of Finishing
  • Fear of Being Rejected
  • Fear of Making the Wrong Decisions

#4 There are quotes inside that are incredible.  Let me share ONE with you because it is the closest to my heart, for my own personal reasons and for better understanding my clients.

“Perfectionism is NOT a quest for the best.  It is a pursuit of the worst in ourselves, the part that tells us that nothing we do will ever be good enough – that we should try again.”

~Julie Cameron.

That’s deep.  And I believe it is true.

(Rita Emmett dropped by since I originally posted this article!  There’s another great “perfectionist” quote she left in the comment section.  Be sure to look for it.)

Sometimes I wonder if some of the people I work with are pure perfectionist. I know I have my moments, but I try to acknowledge when I am being overboard and when it is really needed.

Check out Rita Emmett, (who has been interviewed by Katie Couric.)

Are you ready to receive help to get things done (NOW)?

Perfection will show up where it needs to be.  Not doing things at all – because of whatever reason you have – will hold you up from accomplishing the things you hope to do – in your physical space and in your life.

You can Get It Done Yourself while receiving support, motivation, and guidance from someone like me.  Curious?  Ask me how!

Here’s your link to get your hands on The Procrastinator’s Handbook.

I love to hear from you!  In the comment section below, share the reasons why you may be procrastinating or how you overcame it.

PS  If this struck a chord with you, then please share it.

Hi Melody,
How clever that someone named “Melody” asks “if this struck a chord”. Just wanted you to know that I “noted” that as soon as I “tuned in” to your page.

Thank you for the very cool review and endorsement of my book, The Procrastinator’s Handbook. It was music to my ears:)
Warmly,

Oh MY Goodness! How did you know I wrote this review?!? I’m sitting here with a HUGE grin on my face.

I have a handful of “organizing” books that I really connected with in the beginning of my own personal journey. Your book makes the cut by a landslide. I have referred it and loaned out my personal copy for years.

Thank you for taking the time to write it, publish it, and get it in front of those who are ready to get a grip on procrastination.

Your comment is music to my ears;-)

I feel like dancing to the music. Shall we dance?

Hi Melody,
You asked how I heard about you — my web goddess sends me emails telling me that you wrote about me. She sent me another notice, so here I am again.
You liked the “perfection” quote in “The Procrastinator’s Handbook”. Here is one that I really really love that I quoted in my next book “The Clutter-Busting Handbook”. It is from Karen Ireland “Waiting until everythng is perfect before making a move is like waiting to start a trip until all the traffic lights are green.”
Pretty cool, huh?
Warmly,
Rita Emmett

Ahhhh, so you have a web goddess!

Oooohhh, I love that quote, too! It reminds me of the analogy I used in my multi-tasking post. ( http://www.melodygranger.com/2010/08/multitasking-friend-or-foe/ ) It takes longer to get where you are going if you take the stop and go route.

By the way, I’ve been checking out your book on the procrastinating child.
What a great book to use as a fundraiser. I can’t imagine that any parent would pass it up!

( Here’s the link for my visitors to review the book: http://www.ritaemmett.com/book_child.htm )

Loved having you stop by again, please come again.

I think I know the trick to get you here. Let me try it again and see how long it takes for your web goddess to mention me to you;-)
