Hello There!
It’s two days until Thanksgiving and I’m doing my habitual travel prep! I intend being in the car for hours with Mike and my girls to be more pleasant, than irritating. Here are 5 life saver things I do every single time we travel!
5 Car Prep Tips that Can Make or Break the Enjoyment of Your Trip:
#1 Empty your car of EVERYTHING
…and give it a thorough vacuuming and cleaning.
Clean the interior windows.
Give your car a bath.
Spray the shiny stuff on your tires. (My favorite thing!)
By starting off with a clean car, your family will have more respect for it.
Plus, a clean car makes a happier family.
And a happy family, makes for more enjoyment on the trip!
#2 Place a rectangular squarish style container in the center of the floorboard in the back seat area….
…to store magazines, coloring books, clipboards, writing paper, etc.
Don’t worry about a lid, because the point of this container is to have easy access to reading & writing materials.
Stand the items you store inside in an upright position for easy fingertip flipping.
#3 Pack each person a bag of games, videos, dvd’s, snacks, and drinks.
Bonus Tip: Pack an extra bag of different goodies in the back or the trunk!
Use the fresh stuff for entertainment on the ride back home.
#4 Store luggage on its side.
Line up your luggage for easy access for each person to grab their luggage upon your arrival.
When you store luggage on its side, instead of stacking luggage on top of each other,
then it makes for much faster unloading! (Extra Tip: How to pack clothing for less wrinkles!)
Tuck pillows & throw blankets directly behind the back seat. This is especially important in my vehicle because the back seats recline. We need soft stuff stored there so the girls can recline without blockage.
#5 Give each person their very own small trash bag.
Every time you make a stop for gas or at a visitor/rest stop, then empty the bags into the outdoor trash receptacles.
Have a safe, enjoyable trip!
Happy Thanksgiving,
Melody

Such great suggestions – though I’m quite lazy, so fear I will continue with my spur-of-the-moment cleaning for car trips!
Hey Megan
My prep was spur-of-the-moment, too! Well, I knew I was gonna do it, but I waited until the afternoon before we left.
Thanks for visiting! Hope to see you around here again;-)

Awesome! Awesome! Even though I don’t have kids, sometimes traveling with a car load of adults IS like driving with kids. So having the rectangular box with magazines and what not is a really snazzy idea! And the way to load the trunk…GENIUS!
Smooches!

Shay, the rectangular container for magazines is definitely excellent for trips with Adults Only! lol
And you’ll be ahead of the game should you have children;-))
