Nothing gets me more hyped up than when I’m working with an excited woman who starts to “get it” and turns into an organizing addict. She becomes temporarily obsessed with seeing her space and future through a new lens.
I have to actually pull on the reins and say “whoa Nelly!”, slow down girl. Fast & furious is great, but I need you for the long haul. Let’s just say that I foresee the future…we aren’t stopping at just the office space. Well, that’s how the story usually goes.
Sometimes, it takes just a spark, a small shift in perception to be the catalyst for bigger change. It may take some time for that spark to smolder into a fire under a person’s skin, but when it turns into a flame of desire, there’s no putting it out.
The flames dance, wiggle, and shimmy…brightening up the night sky… and oh, holy smokes, it’s breathing new life energy and vitality back into the soul. That’s how I know when a person is ready to change the story and re-write the next chapter of their life. You CAN do that, you know.
Have you ever taken a look around your space and asked it what story it’s telling you? It is an accurate reflection of your life. Only you know the actual details.
Can it tell you how successful you will be? Is it telling you that you need to take care of you first? And no, I don’t mean that you aren’t spending time doing things you enjoy, I mean taking care of your environment…because it is an extremely important part of YOU. I bet you’ve got “getting away” for fun down just fine! No worries about the suitcases that may still be waiting to be unpacked. I’ve got one to unpack, too!
Open all your curtains or blinds and head outside. Look into each window. What can you tell about the person who lives and works inside? If you live on an upper level, then do this exercise from inside, almost as if you are a stranger observing the life of another person.
Allow me to guide you a bit…
Some areas may be gorgeous…beautiful, especially in the main areas (I won’t ask you to look behind any cabinet or closet doors, since you are outside). Some areas may be, well, embarrassing…or maybe it’s not really in sync with the person you have become . Are becoming. It may not feel like every space in your home belongs to the person you are on the inside.
Does it seem confused or clear? Does this person’s life seem overwhelming or easy? Does it seem fake or like the real you (the REAL you! Not a messy version of a person holding on to things that no longer fit her beliefs, personality, style, and future.) Is it the life of a comfortably organized person getting things done in less time, with more ease and still having a fun, inspired, happy life? Is the person happy, cozy, and loved?
Distracted or thinking clearly? Keeping people from looking/getting too close or inviting them in without hesitation (literally & figuratively)? Causing frustration with loved ones or encouraging calmness, patience and kindness? Spending time un-wisely or being a naturally motivated, productive creature?
Whatever your answers may be, that’s COMPLETELY okay. One area in your home may tell a completely different story than another area of your home. It seems like EVERYONE experiences environmental crossroads at different intervals in their lives. It happens because things are always changing. WE are always changing, evolving, and shifting.
Until next time… live, love, and dance…. (especially when no one is looking!)

I am actually feeling the spark after a long cold spell. Actually started on my files in my office, words i dont ususally like to see in the same sentence. In stead of being overwhelmed, i can see that little by little this is going to happen. It will be such a relief to have it in a more functional, streamlined format. Of course, all this wouldnt be possible without your help Mel. Thank you so much!
You’re SO welcome!
Little by little consistent action will get the job done Terese!!! One thing at a time…one file at a time…
