Ever find yourself getting off track when sitting down to focus on building your business? Keeping up and prioritizing while up-leveling can be tricky…especially if your office is in your home.
A lot of times the thrill of the entrepreneurial pursuit can throw a person into a tailspin of figuring out the logistics to serve more clients, honing their skills, managing their team, maintaining order in the office and keeping their eyes open for opportunities that lead them to bigger success.
How do you prioritize everything that you want to do in your business, plus keep up around the home and still spend time with the special people in your life?
Well, it’s not always an easy question to answer, but I get so many requests to help figure this out, so here are 3 tips to get you headed in the right direction:
3 Tips for Prioritizing and Staying On Task
1. Don’t overbook yourself. Everything takes time to complete. Find your work rhythm, get extremely good at getting your basic repetitive tasks done in a timely manner, then add in a new project or priority task.
2. Consistently choose ONE priority task or project per week and knock it out. If you are so busy that you can’t make the time to dedicate to a project each week, then you may want to hire an assistant to help free up some of your time. You could also free up time by getting faster at other repetitive tasks you do regularly. Organization and systems will help you work more efficiently.
3. Work from a clear space. Clean, clear, orderly spaces make being able to stay focused for longer periods of time a reality. This is a key element in helping you stay on task without getting distracted. If you are working from the computer, then practice resisting the temptation to surf the web, check email, or being social. Get your project done or let it go. Next week, I’ll share tips on deciding what’s a priority or NOT.
What kind of behind-the-scenes projects are you working on? Or what is a business building project that you’ve completed recently that you are SOOOO proud of yourself for accomplishing? I love hearing from you!

Hi Melody ~
Great tips! I couldn’t agree more about keeping an orderly work space. If things are clutterd are not easily accessible, it throws you off and wastes time. I really like the idea of focusing on one priority project each week. I’m working on finding my work rhythm!

Great Kelly!
Yes! Yes! YES! – it wastes precious time and slows you down. Have fun finding your work rhythm & if necessary, put on some music with a beat that matches the pace you like ;-D
Ooops! I wrote your name instead of mine in the “comment name” box, lol.
